Why Can't AARP IT Department Keep The Games Part of The Web Site in Working Order?

Redirects, games that play incorrectly, an advertising icon that appears on your game instead of disappearing like it is supposed to do, and many other glitches plague the AARP Games Section of their Web Site. It has been on a regular basis and particular to this section of the Web Site. You would think that at some point, things would improve but it seems to get worse. They just don't get it. I know my computer and carrier are not to blame because all other games web sites work fine and the rest of AARP's website works fine. Anyone else having problems???? In regards to the redirect issues where the computer won't connect me to a game, I contacted their supposed IT department today concerning the redirects. First, they ask if I deleted cookies, I had. Then they asked if I cleared my cache and reset my browser, I had. Then they asked if I have installed the lastest Flash Player. I had. Then they said Flash Player wouldn't work on a Mac, they were wrong there. Then they said that I probably have the new Flash Player and the old Flash Player on my computer at the same time. They will say anything except that there is a problem at their end. I was told that the game site is operated by a third party vendor. Then I was told if I had a problem that I needed to email aarp, not the third party vendor that operates the games part of the web site. They are not making sense. Is anyone else having these "redirect" issues? I now have the latest Safari, Firefox, Adobe Flash and the Apple Techies have checked all parts of my system. The games part of AARP's web site, in their opinion, is the culprit.

I've experienced some of the problems that you referenced. > I hate the little blue triangle that is related to opting out of ad tracking that will not go away and sits in the middle of the games. I also find that the games, at times, run jerky. This was really bad for me until they took the "comments" section off the bottom under the ads. Maybe all of this should be removed: share, email, recommend, tweet, like. I believe there is too much "action" on the pages. Too many ads and things that use "Flash". This could slow down the running of the games, or the browsers. Others have complained to me about getting a blank screen after completing a game and not having their score recorded. This is especially aggravating if the score in question would be on the Leaderboard. I have not had this happen but do find that the Leaderboard is slow in recording scores at times. I will often have to click onto another game and come back several times in order to find that my score has been recorded. At other times it pops up immediately. Speaking of the Leaderboard...... Why is it the web designers of this site chose to put it everywhere but the one place it should be— on the page you are taken to after you finish playing the game? There is a blank spot there—one of the few "blank spots" on any of the pages. I get so irritated at having to make multiple clicks after finishing a game and wanting to check my status. On the previous site you could click a button at the bottom that would take you to the Leaderboard. Also it would show your status at the bottom of the top 20 scores (if you were not in the top 20) so you had an idea of how you ranked in relation to others that played. I like knowing if I am number 22 or number 230 in relation to other players. While I am complaining.....why not have 20 top players showing as there used to be. It seems to me that would please at least ten more people. I use Firefox 13.0.1 and the latest version of "Flash". My computer is a year old I-Mac. At some point when I complain about technical problems on this site I will be asked this even if I have included it in the original post. Its an indication that the person responding is not actually reading the post or the email. Incidently, thanks AARP for correcting the controls for the text in these "Reply" messages. This is the first time I've been able to change the font size in a long time. |

I find the "too many redirects" problem annoying as well. I can usually play one game, then when I try to play it again, I get the "too many redirects" message and the page fails to load. So, I clear the cache, close Safari, and try it all over again. Sometimes it works, others time it still doesn't work. Seems to have gotten worse the past two weeks. |

Posted by nickinil The folks are aware that this occurs as I have talked to an IT person at AARP in California. It is a AARP GAMES versus Safari issue. If you use Firefox as a browser, there is no problem. It's just a pain. |

The games worked for me for a long time. Then they didn't for a short time. Then they started working again. But only for a couple of days. Now it is too many redirects. Yes, I have safari. But it worked fine with safari before, so they must have done something. Anyway, not going to change my OS just to accomodate AARP games. They were relaxing, but there are other ways to relax. I'll check once in a while to see if they work again. Too bad it isn't just working. |

Is the AARP IT department reading this? Would appreciate your input as I love playing these games. Except maybe Bridge where my partner keeps jumping to No Trump! I've had very little connection to the games for the past week or two and I miss them. Go Team USA |
