Within the past year, I have had to start high blood pressure and cholesterol meds.  I had a fairly good diet and was active, but heredity got me and here I am.  I have wanted to lose about 15-20 pounds for years and nothing worked.  I have tried diets that have left me hungry, and tired of salads and raw vegetables, and still no weight loss.  10 days ago, I started a meal replacement routine where I replace one or two meals a day with a protein drink and have lost 6 pounds already.  So far I am happy with the program and I am hopeful I will lose my 20 pounds.  More to come.

Unfortunately ,the majority of us are in the same boat. 70% of americans are overweight. That't ALL Americans, not just seniors, Kids too. This is a world wide trend. Hence the epidemic of related conditions like high blod pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, osteoarhritis, nonalcholic fatty liver disease and heart disease. There is also a link with certain kinds of cancers. Weight watchers has a good track record for successful weight loss AND maintenance. Nutritional supplements are also helpful  like those advocated by Dr. David Heber at the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition RFO weight loss  program in LA.Smile

The obesity rate in Americans has skyrocketed in the past four decades. According to the Weight-control Information Network, since the early 1960s, the percentage of adults who are obese increased from 13.4 to 35.1. However, many Americans alive 20 to 40 years ago are still alive, so a changing genetic makeup can't be blamed for a dramatic shift in weight. In reality, largely controllable environmental factors are to blame.

Eliminating sugary drinks can really help you reduce calories. Soda and most juices are full of sugar and almost no nutritients.

The Weight Agency Method (http://WeightAgency.com) or via Amazon.com, explains how refined carbohydrates are addicting and sabotage fat burning.  As long as the body has carbohydrates to burn, your blood sugar will cycle and your eating patterns and appetite patterns remain the same.  But, by eliminating simple carbohydrates and limiting your carb intake to fibrous vegetables and some fruit, your body will switch to fat burning in about 3 days, which DRAMATICALLY reduces your appetite and makes it easy to eat less, all the while burning your stored fat for energy.

This is not new but has been explained by Atkins, Eades, Hellers, and others.  In fact, it is the high carbohydrate diets from fast foods and sweetened beverages that is responsible for most of the obesity in the world.  Go back to meat/fish and vegetables and the weight will drop.  Stay away from sugar, flour, corn, potatoes, and white rice!

I have been fighting my weight for the last several yrs. High blood pressure, acid reflux and chronic pain are my downfalls. Some of the meds have added to my weight. Then I found out my thyroid was underactive, also adding to my weight gain. After starting thyroid meds, the weight started coming off. I also have started eating much healthier-lots of organic foods-and being more active. I recently purchased a house, and have 1/2 acre to maintain myself. This is a great way to get a workout! Between weedeating and raking, not only have I lost inches, but built up muscle also. I also discovered a drink called 'Refreshers' made by Starbucks, which is made with the green coffee beans which have recently been discovered to help with weight loss. I wasn't drinking these for this purpose, but for an energy source. You don't get the calories or that jittery, anxious feeling you get with sugary energy drinks. I have lost 30lbs so far, and my goal is 50 lbs more. I feel so good, healthier and more energetic.I hope anyone that reads this will get some info or help with their fight with weight loss.

I am a 62 years old, a diabetic, and a kidney cancer survivor (going on 4 years).  On Feb. 1st of this year, after seeing my electronic medical records (where I was described by my surgeon as an "obese male"), i decided it was time to do something about my ever increasing weight.  After two cancer surgeries, I thought I was headed for an early grave and I decided that I might as well eat whatever I felt like eating, because I only had a few years left anyway.  After two years of clear CT scans, I realized that my life was not going to be cut short and that I needed to get the weight off and get healthy again.  I have two sons and four beautiful grandchildren and it is MY responsibility to do what is in MY power to live as long a life as I possibly can.
It had been 6 months since I started my weight-loss program with the help of an online commercial weight loss program.  The program has some tremendous tools that allow me to track what I eat and how much exercise I get.  You start slow and you start small.  I get to eat the food that I like, but have just so many points of food per day.  I do not feel deprived, but yes, I do feel hungry.  I try to fight the hunger by drinking ice tea (unsweetened) or grabbing a handful of nuts to get me to the next meal.  If I feel hungry at night, I eat fruit, or just go to bed.  On Feb. 1st of this year, I started walking (in the snow and cold of Wisconsin) 1 mile, 3 times per week.  Every 3 weeks I would kick it up a half mile and every two months, I would add in an extra day.  Today, entering my seventh month on the program, I am walking 6.6 miles (two hours to complete) at least 6 days per week.  The program emphasizes that losing two pounds or less, per week (taking it slow, and making life style changes that truly are "for life") is the best way to be successful in not only taking the weight off, but in keeping it off.
Results - 33 pounds gone, 4 inches around the waistline gone, 75% reduction in insulin usage, 50% drop in blood triglyceride levels, and so much energy that I just want to keep it going and do the same in the next six months.  That will get me to a healthy weight of 175 lbs.  From then on it will be whatever it takes to maintain that weight and live just as long as I possibly can.
I hope this post helps someone else get going and get healthy.  I didn't think I could do it, but I'm half-way to my goal and there is nothing going to get in my way to accomplish that goal.  My family is too important to me not to get there.  If my cancer comes back, I'll deal with it, and I'll fight like hell to stay healthy right up until the last day of my life!!!!!
