Subway Restaurants Are Not Senior Friendly

I feel very strongly that Subway should be more 'Senior Citizen Friendly'. After all, the generation that grew up as customers at Subway are soon approaching Senior Citizen status. I am 59 years old. I recently patronized a Subway restaurant with my parents who are 87 and 89 respectively. I needed to assist my parents in choosing the sandwich they wanted, the bread, toasted/not toasted, type of cheese, and vegetables to be added with dressings. This took time and the Subway clerk was not happy that we were not deciding fast enough. There was no one behind us but still the clerk was annoyed. I assisted my parents in carrying the sandwiches to their table and setting up; this also annoyed the clerk. When I returned to the counter she was rude to me. Should Subway initiate a 'Senior Assistant' position, Volunteer or paid to help Senior navigate through their cumbersome ' senior unfriendly' ordering process? How many of you have had a similar experience at a Subway? Hopefully, in the near future all Subway locations will develop a hand held menu and a check off list so the elderly customer can sit and read the menu and choose what they want in a more dignified manner. I filed a complaint via the info on my receipt to Subway headquarters. They replied to me and they forwarded it to the Store Owner. The owner contacted me with apologies but with NO Senior Friendly suggestions. I have suggested the hand held menu with a check list option to both Subway Corporate and the owner. If you have similar experiences at a Subway, please complain to Subway via www.subway.com/" rel="nofollow">www.subway.com with your receipt information i.e. Store No., Location, and Clerk ID info. The Subway clerks need training and patience in assisting Seniors when they order. The franchise owners should be made aware of this lack of compassionate service. Cordially, baroque |

Cordially, baroque Posted by baroque My experience has been different. I have never had a problem until a couple of weeks back when I stopped at a new Subway just outside of Austin on my way home. There was a family there to eat and instead of them being in line to order most of the family was sitting at the table and telling the father what they wanted. He had to keep looking back and asking them what they wanted. A second worker finally took my order but by the time I finally got my toasted sandwich it was cold. That's because that family took so long in deciding what they wanted on their sandwiches, lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard etc. Maybe your waiter was just having a bad day. We all have one every now and then. Since you posted here I take it you have a computer. You can find Subway's menu on their web site. If you know which Subway restaurant you are going to you can also order online (Not available at all Subway's). The below information comes from the Subway web site. Don't stand in line... Order Online! You can now place your order online and have it ready when you get to your local SUBWAY. I am 62. |

In Response to Subway Restaurants Are Not Senior Friendly: Why didn't you go online and help them decide BEFORE you went to the restaurant? That's a simple solution. The Subway restaurants are very senior friendly giving discounts etc. You had a bad experience with ONE person so you condem a whole restaurant chain....I think that's really too much! |

In Response to Subway Restaurants Are Not Senior Friendly: [QUOTE]I feel very strongly that Subway should be more 'Senior Citizen Friendly'... Barogue: Your experience is unfortunate, but making a general criticism of all such restaurants based on one experience with one clerk is not a realistic approach. Where possible, I generally stand back from the counter until deciding on what I want to order before going up to the counter. Perhaps the best advice is for you to report your experience to the manager of that store. Give them a chance to correct the error! Ordering online in advance sounds like a good idea, but it is not always practical. |
