Its Sunday, May 20th 2012 @ 9:07 in the morning (on the west coast, Edmonds, Wa.).  I just got off the phone with a pleasant woman from Safeway.   I voiced my concern over the new "Smart Phone App" that Safeway is touting as the wave of the future.   My question was if you don't have a "smart phone" what could I do about this new program to get these coupons loaded onto my rewards card (since all a person has to do is scan an "app" and every coupon that safeway has at the time will be automatically loaded onto your rewards card)? I was informed that I still can go to their website and manually sift through each and every coupon that they have and "load" the coupon (individually) onto my club card.   I asked "Isn't that discriminatory to people that don't have or want a 'smart Phone'?   I don't surf the web on my phone, I don't download music, I use a phone to make and receive calls when I'm not at home. The woman said she would forward "my concern" on; whatever that means.   She also informed me that if I didn't have a computer, I was more than welcome to use one at any of their stores. My concern is that as a 'young' senior citizen (60 in Jan), I will lose out on these coupons because I might 'drop' into safeway on the way from one place to another, not have the time to sift through all posted coupons and spend more money because I don't have a smart phone. I encourage people to voice concerns to safeway about this new policy and invite AARP to look into this policy to protect us from the missed savings (which actually means the increased cost to people like me who do not have or want a 'fancy phone'!   Thank you,   David Irving
