Thank you.  I liked Phil Donahue very much.  He was very good at putting guests at ease and and getting them to answer questions from the audience.  He explored many interesting topics on his program.  Johnny Carson was often very witty and funny.  In Response to Re: Favorite talk show hosts... who are yours now? what about in years gone by?:

I've enjoyed many over the years but I must go back to the inventors to cast my votes: Steve Allen (Tonight), Dave Garroway (Today), Jack Paar (Tonight), and Mike Douglas (king of daytime). Honorable mention to Merv Griffin. Nowadays, I don't watch that much, unless Betty White is a guest ... she brings out the best in Leno, Letterman, and Kimmel. Jimmy plays a great game of Password too! If only Allen Ludden could be the moderator.

I had always enjoyed "Nightline" especially when it was hosted by Ted Koppels.  Now it's been replaced by Jimmy Kimmel.

Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon are the kings of late night TV nowadays.  Before that, Johnny Carson all the way! Funniest guy ever!
David Letterman -- fahgetabout him! Boring and too sexist! Conan -- well, need I say more! Sickening & mean-spirited!

Now go to bed!! Nighty-night you old cahgers!

My Number 1 all-time favorite was Steve Allen, 1954-1957.  Number 2 favorite was Jack Paar, 1957-1962

I have several favorites.   Starting out with Steve Allen on the Tonight Show way back when I was a kid.  Another fave was Carson and also Leno.   Also The Arsenio Hall show was great I thought.

My fsvorite talk show host[ess] is Oprah Winfrey and I really miss her program.  I got home from work just a little after 4 and spent an enjoyable hour with the lady while I shook off the work day.  It was not unusual to enjoy a gass of merlot while I listened and was informed on all manner of topics.  Oprah never talked down to her guests, treated all with utmost courtesy. There's nothing to take her place.  Barbara

I started watching Craig Ferguson.  Only problem is he does not come on until about 1am.
