I vote for Downton Abbey, and any other BBC show. For some reason , the British seem to get my attention ,with their understated emotions. I love "As Time Goes By", too, and,of course, Keeping Up Appearances.

I vote for The West Wing, all seven seasons.  I am so sorely in need of good writing in today's TV.  Where did it all go?  When The West Wing went off the air, we all said good bye, and looked for more writing by the same writing team  (Aaron Sorkin et. al).

When Studio 60 was announced we figured we'd have three or four more great years of great TV. Wrong...Unfortunately they sold the show to NBC who couldn't find a good show with both hands and a flashlight.  One season was it.  We're still waiting.

In the mean time, the seven season of The West Wing was just on sale at Amazon.com for $88 and we snapped it up.  It might take longer than a weekend, but my marathon is booked.

I've been a member of Netflix for some time now and stream from them often.  I'm an English TV and movie addict (I used to live there).  I also love a great many foreign films from most countries, and have had great finds on Netflix.  I don't care for what they did last year, and even quit them for a while.  But, after a bit of time figured I was "biting off my nose to spite my face," and re-joined.  As for British TV one can stream, here are a few that are fantastic as far as I'm concerned:

A Touch of Frost (14 or 15 seasons)
Foyles War
Midsomer Murders
Luther (fantastic.  this was also on BBC America)
The Office (The original one, it's hysterical)
Shameless (the original one, it's also absolutely hysterical)
Law & Order UK
Inspector Morse (and old favorite, can't begin to imagine how many seasons.  I'm sure it's at least 14 or 15)
Inspector Lewis (an offshoot of Inspector Morse)
The Forsyte Saga
Downton Abbey
Upstairs Downstairs ( a classic)
Wire in the Blood (if you like Criminal Minds on CBS, this is as dark, but even more so...and better)
Brideshead Revisited (another classic)
Cracker (the original with Robbie Coltrane.  Much, much better than the copy that came to America)
Inspector Lynley series
Blue Murder
House of Cards (yet another classic)
The Politician's Wife

This is just a few that are available.  There is also the classic Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple programs. And also the PD James Stories.

Hope this is helpful
