Most of the viewers of both All My Children and One Life to Live have been boycotting
ABC for taking these 2 soaps off the air and replacing them with PURE CRAP,
THE CHEW AND THE REVOLUTION.

Most of us are waiting for these two useless shows to be taken off the air for the
lack of viewers.

Many of the viewers started watching them from the very beginning and to some, they
were like part of their family.

So, now like most others, I am on the computer a little longer :)

Would just like some to share their thoughts.

PS  This is the first time I have posted here.

I see one other post from you, an earlier one, in addition to this one.  What shows are you talking about being on instead of those old soap operas?  I only know of one person who ever watches soap operas anymore.  I understand their popularity has greatly declined because partially of all the great shows in more complexity being on in the evenings.

I am!!  ABC/Disney has destroyed a nearly 50 year traditon of watching soaps in my family .  I watched the very first OLTL and have followed it ever since.  I remember GH when Nurse Jessie Brewer was the hottie (yes I am that old! lol).  I think it's disgraceful how soap fans are being treated.  We have been their bread and butter for decades and now they think they can "train" us to like the cheap crap they are airing now.  Well, even the mighty Oprah is finding out that the soaps gave her more of a bump in the ratings than she thought.  Without the soaps lead-in, her network is suffering as is ABC.  Katie will fail miserably without the soaps!  Don't underestimate our numbers.  We are millions strong.....

I am sorry, but I find this post  hilarious...who gives a crap about soap operas...it is actors playing parts...besides the Chew is a fabulous show and the food is amazing.  I haven't watched the Revolution because I don't watch shows much during the day.  But no sympathy here about soaps dying except I hope good actors are able to get new jobs...but soap actors are lucky as many of them have worked for years and there are many actors who have to fight for new jobs daily. Only about four percent of actors in SAG and AFTRA  work constantly, everybody else is hustling all the time to find an acting job.  I doubt ABC/Disney is missing you guys...CHEW is a huge success and their studio audience is full each day...all that yummy food !

Please don't be sorry.  I'm glad to hear that you were amused.  I hope that the cast of "The Chew" can make all that yummy food "to-go".  Ratings are in for last week and their show lost another 11 percent.  As far as the ABC/Disney suits not missing us, it seems their precious "The View" is now being affected by "The Chew's" low ratings as they were down 3 percent in viewership.  Also, ratings are now going down for their night time shows.  "The Revolution", which took OLTL's place, has already been cancelled.  They had to pay people $30 each to be audience members!  As far as the actors are concerned, in a statement AFTRA said the cancellations of the soaps are “a devastating loss for thousands of AFTRA members.”  And don't forget the writers and the crew people that were cut loose.  If the soap opera genre is allowed to die, many yet undiscovered and struggling actors will have one less very important medium in which to learn and practice their trade.  Here is just a partial list of some of the actors who either started on soaps or were on soaps early in their career.  Perhaps you may recognize a few of the names:

I beg to differ with you on " who gives a crap about soap operas...it is actors playing parts". We ALL should care because these are Americans losing jobs!  And ABC/Disney's attitude towards the soap opera audience is another big corporation abusing approximately 7 million Americans so that they can make a profit by producing cheap reality shows rather than quality scripted entertainment.

TO ABC/DISNEY:  No Soaps = No ABC/Disney.  No Mouse in MY House!  Bring back the soaps or release the rights so that another company with more vision and imagination can produce them!!

So "Chew" on that for awhile and have a nice day

All people should pay attention to this boycott. The rating system totally ignores anyone over 54 and only wants to show what 18 to 34 year olds want..Shows are being cancelled lefted and right no matter how high of ratings because we are not important to television. We need to fight these network for we are the major group who watch tv.We spend more and we buy for our kids and grandkids. We are the ones with more time to watch tv but we are being ignored.ABC lied on ratings with Neilsen and said we could be trained like dogs to watch what they put on.The only reason they where cancelled because they waned cheap reality shows to pad there pockets. This is streaming more and more on nighttime to.Harry's Law with high ratings was just cancelled because the 18 to 34 year olds where not watching. When where we consider dead to tv?You can catch cooking shows day and night alread. My ABC has two on now in the daytime alone.Talk from 5 am to 6 pm everyday except for General Hospital.Who wants to sit all day and watch talk and cooking shows? Wonder if the 18 to 34 year old are going watch this. Its not about the veiwers anymore its about what is the cheapest way to make money.I am boycotting and will keep boycotting.People need to take a lesson from us soap fans once this starts with cheaper shows it will eventually get your show cancelled to.Television has become Wall Street not entertainment.

Good points moshane58.  Perhaps AARP should investigate this as age discrimination?  Everyone should take a look at these two articles:

http://www.minnpost.com/business/2011/10/marketers-ignore-baby-boomers-their-peril

http://www.seniorhomes.com/w/viewers-too-old-nbc-cancels-harrys-law/

This is an issue that should concern all Boomers whether they watch soaps or not. Eventually this will affect ALL enntertainment genres not just soaps.  Actors have been concerned about the trend toward cheap reality programming and cgi animation taking their jobs for a long time now.  Soon an entire entertainment industry will be obliterated.

We soapers are taking a stand now.  Remember this:

"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."

-- by Martin Niemöller

Laugh if you want but eventually this trend will affect you too
