Jazz has always been first and foremost about live performances. What makes it different than so many other genres is the emphasis on improvisation--preferably when the musicians are right in front of you and are reacting to the vibe in the room. Still, nothing can set the tone in my house for a brunch or dinner party than a little classic jazz on the speakers. Did you know that AARP.org now offers a free streaming channel of Internet jazz radio? You can try it out by clicking on this link and then clicking on the jazz or smooth jazz channel: http://www.aarp.org/etc/aarp/statics/global/html/slacker-player.html Enjoy! |

In Response to Re: Is There A Place for Jazz?: I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that I might find Oliver Nelson's Jazzhattan Suite. I have looked but so far no luck not even one song on YouTube. I had it on vinyl but when I moved years ago I was missing a few things besides records. Thanks if you have any info. Posted by koolenuf It has never been reissued in full, but 5 of the 6 compositions have been reissued on Verve Jazz Masters 48 Verve 314527 654-2. Marketplace sellers at amazon.com are selling used copies starting at $12.46 when I just looked. It is out of print.
