Of course there is a place for jazz! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCejFOIQ3iQ I confess, I met Miles Davis at the Village Vanguard a long time ago. (don't ask how long). Herbie is a favorite, too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_hjzm9ehso&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL69D5900BEC79580F |

In Response to Re: Is There A Place for Jazz?: There is a place for any music genre in the world as long as there are people with diverse music tastes. Much of Jazz is improvisational in nature and so it can appeal to many different people. Jazz of course has evolved a great deal since it's beginnings and has numerous new labels such as Jazz Fusion. When I listen to Jazz I prefer instrumental - I'll still put on Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" when I'm in the mood. The old styles of Jazz and Skat are disappearing along with the audience that listened to it. I play Piano/Keyboard so I'll mix in some Jazz styles when I'm improvising. The Jazz/Blues/Rock meld has kept it in the spotlight. It certainly won't disappear and is probably more popular in certain parts of the country and overseas. Posted by ARRPdenizen I love Davis! But what about here in music? |

In Response to Re: Is There A Place for Jazz?: I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that I might find Oliver Nelson's Jazzhattan Suite. I have looked but so far no luck not even one song on YouTube. I had it on vinyl but when I moved years ago I was missing a few things besides records. Thanks if you have any info. Posted by ARRPdenizen The jazz greats will always be played, and , you are right, the styles are dynamic, change is constant, but, a good jazz pianist is always a plus. Do you have any recordings of your work? Can we listen? |
