In Response to Re: What Song brings back memories: Hi Why is this particular topic "stuck" to the top? and who has the capacity to do the "sticking"? Diane Posted by nyadrn The topic is stuck to the top because it was created with a sticky, only editors have the functionality to do so. If you have a post that you want to have a sticky on the community team can do that for you, simply send email to community@aarp.org or send a PM to any of the team members. |

In Response to Re: What Song brings back memories: I'm very excited to be interviewing Dave Somerville, the Diamonds' lead singer and only original survivor for upcoming book about the baby boomers. It's called Once Upon Our Times (Because Life Isn't a Fairy Tale): 65 Years Growing up Boomer. You can read about the book at onceuponourtimes.com . Also, if you have any questions you'd like me to ask Dave about the Diamonds' history, music, old rock 'n'roll, etc. just respond to this note here.

In Response to What Song brings back memories: What song evokes the strongest memories for you Posted by AARPGuide "Garden in the rain" by the four Aces - 1952 - Junior High dances in Eugene, OR at the Teen Canteen above Dotson's on Willamette Street. The flip side "Tell me why" was pretty good too! Cheers, Miles |

In Response to Re: What Song brings back memories: Do you Remember the group The Diamonds? The Diamonds.. Performances 47 years apart FYI, the lead singer of the Diamonds is also the father of TOM HANKS. If you were alive in 1957, and old enough to enjoy Rock and Roll, you will probably remember the group, "The Diamonds" who had just launched their super hit "Little Darlin' ". For you that are too young to remember - it was a time when the performers were happy, enjoying themselves, respecting their fans, dressed appropriately and their lyrics could be understood. They did not feel obligated to scream, eat the microphone, mumble inaudible lyrics or trash the set. In 1957, The Diamonds had a hit with "Little Darlin". 47 years later, they were requested to perform at Atlantic City ... This link leads to both performances. Watch the first one then scroll down for the new one 47 years later. http://www.flixxy.com/the-diamonds-little-darlin-1957-2004..htm Posted by louisie I remember the song, never cared that much for it but do agree the fifties were great times for growing up - Elvis, real Rock & Roll and Rythum and blues, duck tails, pegged pants, outrageously expensive Stradivarius Shirts with the slanted pockets (at least in Eugene $10), one button suits, English Brouges. etc. In '55 or '56 I remember a DJ on KUGN was fired because he said damn or hell on his live program. Does anyone even say damn or hell anymore? Cheers, Miles |
