Personally, I would put Gato in the easy listening genre. And he is good at it too. To pick from all the great jazz players, I mean you got Louis Armstrong, Sindey Bechet, etc they lay down the chops. For me I like BePop and cool jazz from the mid 50s to the early sixties. Folks, like Miles, Thelonius, Coltrane, Mingus, etc I even like much of this Post BePop of today, like Wynton family, Roy Hargrove. I love, I mean I really love rock and roll but jazz is so much more complex musically to my hears. These ears haven't worked well sense that 77 Who concert. I mean third roll from the stage and right next to the monster speakers. In my 10 on the desert island at least 5 would be jazz.

I am not familiar with Roy Hargrove, and I will look him up. I do like Coltraine, and Davis, the Marlasis brothers are super. There is a jazz festival in Atlanta on Memorial Day.

Are you near there?

Clearly Louis Armstrong was the most talented, charismatic jazz musician of all time.

I have quite a few of his albums and I really enjoy his live performance at the 1960 Newport Jazz festival.

My personal all time favorite is Red Garland. Instruments I tend to favor are piano and trumpet. I grew up in Eugene with cool so Chet Baker, early Miles, Gerry Mulligan, Bill Evans, Dakota Staton, Chis Conner, MJQ, Jazz Messengers, June Christy (She sang the sexiest, sadest song ever written - "Something Cool") and Mel Torme. I'm not particularly crazy about the Sax but a few could really get my attention - Ben Webster, Paul Desmond & Sonny Rollins. Rueben Gonzale's and the Buena Vista Social Club - now there was a sound to send shivers up your spine!

I might get banged by the jazz purists, but I'm into fusion and "electric" jazz.

A huge fan of Al DiMeola, plus John-Luc Ponty, Stanley Clarke, Shadowfax (RIP Chick Greenberg), Ben Sidran, hey even Kenny G, his early works was pretty hot before he went into easy listening. Yea or nay, what say you?
