In Response to Don McLean's 'American Pie': Hi - Do any of you like this song as much as I do? We're getting ready to post some images that bring you back to the time when you lived through what he's singing about - and so I wanted to start a discussion - what flashes in front of your eyes when you hear this song - for me it's the "three men I admired most" - which I always assumed were the two Kennedy's and Martin Luther King, killed in service to the nation. What about you? Watch our slideshow about American Pie for inspiration - and then weigh in here. Posted by menschmedia I love this song also, and have the same feelings about the father, son and holy ghost. It makes you cry and smile all at the same time. Just like those days |

In Response to Re: Don McLean's 'American Pie': I always thought when I heard this song that the reference to the marching band was the shootings at Kent State by the National Guard. Did anyone else think this? Posted by lkmason311 That does make sense |

In Response to Re: Don McLean's 'American Pie': Much a'do about nothing... Posted by elego That must be a picture of your father on your post because if you are that old you have to know that "American Pie" is the song that summed up the sixties. It is a classic that can not be denied. |
