saw this movie.  i expected a lot of laughter.  it was more sad than funny.  but it was an excellent movie.  i don't want to buy the book, so i'm on a waiting list at the library

i don't want to buy the book, so i'm on a waiting list at the library for the book.

I saw the movie last night. I guess the people in my theater were different. There was laughter, clapping plus the ooh's and ah's. I enjoyed the movie and it brought back memory's. I was born in southern Alabama on the Florida line. When I was about nine years old my grandfather on my mothers side of the family passed away and we moved in with my grandmother. I remember us having a black lady come in and help out. She was really nice and took very good care of us. Now back to the movie. I enjoyed it and seeing all the older things that were used back then. I could tell more but I don't want to give away to many details about the movie.

my family had servants in Louisville, Ky (not the "deep south") then later, when I lived in Birmingham I used to pass the church where that "nut" tossed the bomb into the Sunday School Class and it made me [physically sick every time I passed that corner. I felt so awful . In my opinion, since I lived through this era, this was a very "cleaned up" version of what really happened. However, I knew many families that treated their "help" as family. Our maid "Hattie's son became a physician and could buy and sell me 6 times over. I'm very happy about this

My special friend and I also went to see the movie and enjoyed it very much. It was theraputic in that we lived through that era. I knew dozens of people who worked as "the help" or maids. This was one of the few job opportuities available to many of them, since they had limited education and other skills. I often heard about horrible and very good things that many of the helpers experienced during the course of their work day. One of the terrible things omitted was the lack of payment for social security and worksmen compensation. Many had to work far beyond what was then considered retirement age during the 50s and 60s. It would have been great if the movie pointed out some of these practical things that the helpers had to endure. HAS THE STATURE OF LIMITATION PASSED? Most of the maids have passed on and left a legacy of cleaning and hard work. Still another human point made in the movie was the close relationship that often developed between the maids and the children they cared for daily. As they evolved in age and understanding about "southern living," it appeared the children's affection waned over the years. I am sure there are exceptions and this is good. We need more positive infusion of unvarnished love and humanitarian expressions. The Help was, for sure, very thought provoking! Whatever our perspective pre-movie, hopefully all of us have come away more loving human beings.

We saw the movie and both agreed it was one of the best movies we've seen in a long time. The theater was full and there was laughter and cheers and clapping during a few scenes. I won't be buying the book but am anxious to read it.

I read the book before I saw the movie. I was very apprehensive when I saw the previews of the movie as they made it appear to be a comedy. The book is more suspenseful and gut-wrenching. The KKK 's presence is more pronounced. But all in all, they did a good job. My favorite read and my favorite movie by far this year.

I read the book and saw the movie. I think the book was better. Being a Yankee, I didn't see any of the things they brought out and I don't even think I was aware of them. The Help was history to me and I would recommend both the book and the movie to everyone.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS MOVIE AND HOPE THAT IT WILL BE NOMINATED WHEN THE ACADEMY AWARDS ROLL AROUND NEXT YEAR. OF ALL THE MOVIES I'VE SEEN THIS YEAR,THIS ONE IS WORTHY! MANY OF THE PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE WERE INTERACTING WITH THE MOVIE'S DIALOGUE AND AT THE END, A LOT OF APPLAUSE!

I rented the movie from RedBox and I thought it was one of the very best movies I've seen in a long time, but I really enjoy movies like this where it shows how the black folks were treated so badly. I was born in 1950, so I remember JFK integrating a high school and all the trauma that caused ! Secret Life of Bees, is another very good movie with this same theme. I just love that one too.
