Bill Newcott's preview of the summer 2012 blockbuster films for grownups is now posted. Last night, I saw Hunger Games - but it's not that movie I want to talk about here - it's the trailers for more of those big summer movies. For example - GI Joe. I couldn't tell you what this was about at all from the hectic trailer - but apparently there are going to be references to the "maturity" of aging star Bruce Willis, who's making a habit of this kind of thing. In the trailer, at least, there's a reference to his "high cholesterol" - even as he machine guns bad guys from the back of a pickup truck. And are movies like the new Spider Man for "grownup" audiences as well as kids? Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) appeals to moms and grandmoms, I'm guessing, as much as their kids. And the vertiginous scenes above New York seem like anybody will think they're cool. Finally - Johnny Depp as a time travelling Dracula in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows looks like he is going to be an absolute hoot. So - Are you someone who plans your movie-going in advance? Do you wait for the reviews? Are you going to see what other members of the family want to see, and tag along? Let's tawk. |

In Response to Summer Movies are Coming - Some are especially for grownups - Which ones are you looking forward to?: Hi. AARP's movie guy Bill Newcott will be weighing in on the summer movies he's looking out for. But we want to hear from you. Is he right that Hollywood is making an effort to bring the generations together in dark movie theaters this summer, or is most of the fare still for kids? Posted by menschmedia I'm a big sci-fi fan so anything like that I'll watch. I don't really like chick flicks. Love horror when it's done well. I will be seeing GI Joe and Dark Shadows. I like both Bruce Willis and Johnny Depp. |

I, too, am looking forward to Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It has a wonderful cast! In Response to Re: Summer Movies are Coming - Some are especially for grownups - Which ones are you looking forward to?: oklagramma, it's not because they're advertising on our site that I think the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel may be the movie you're looking for - a movie of adventure and colorful travel experiences with what seems to be be a compelling story - and very British - like a couple of other movies where travel or education expands the horizons ( Shirley Valentine , Educating Rita ). And of course there's Maggie Smith - who today's audience may know for Downton Abbey . Posted by menschmedia |
