Documentary Films for Grownups

AARP's movie critic is doing a round-up on documentary films. Subjects range from Florida billionaires to mental illness. But what documentary films are your favorites? I personally fell in love with the movie Babies. There really wasn't any narrative to it. It was simply documenting the different methods of how babies are raised in Japan, California, Mongolia and Namibia. Sounds so boring, but you just couldn't get enough of the incredibly beautiful and sometimes quite humorous footage.

So what other documentary files should we all try to see? What sparks your interest?

My husband and I think everyone, especially young people about Middle School age should see

I'd like to see a documentary of single mothers who are older now, where they ended up after everything that has happened to them now that their kids have grown... note w/ some cases of which include them raising a disabled child what happens now that the caretaker(the parent) is older than 55. and cases where spousal abuse victims left the marraige with or without children,but are now older adults; what is their life like now .

In the Feb/March issue article Best Movies for Grownups the fabulous "Searching for Sugar Man" was listed a the best Documentary. Since you recognized the amazing talent of Sisto Rodriguez AARP needs to feature him as a cover with an entire article about the life and rebirth of his career of this astounding hidden American treasure. As far as I am concerned if Roidriguez is not nominated for "Best New Artist of the Year" at the 2014 Grammy's he will have been cheated yet again of his just rewards!

Documentary films are from the true story of such places, person, living or anything. It's nice to watch this kind of movie because you can relate it to yourself.
