Dracula is a favorite of mine.
Bela Lugosi , Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, .... the classic horror films were built on imagination, not just bloody scenes of gore. What were some of the titles on those great old flicks, though?

Can't forget "Psycho". This next one may not be a classic, but it really scared me when I was 6 years old. Had to have the light on at night for years: "Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein".

I love watching the old movies that were popular when I was a kid...Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy and the Wolfman. The one from the 60's that really frightened me was the "Night of the Living Dead". It still freaks me out when I see the "dead" walking toward the living, then chomping away on them for a meal.

Yes, Psycho was truly scary with the mentally sick Norman Bates who kept his dead mother in the basement and assumed her identity when he killed the woman in the shower scene. Unlike the old thrillers, this one took on a frightening psychological perspective as it wasn't just a curse but an insane person who could have lived next door.

Oh, I loved that one , too! Night of the Living Dead!
Do you remember the movie Thirteen Ghosts?
I will never forget that movie !

Wasn't it the first 3-D movie ever? The night I saw it , the theater did a great job , and , in the middle of the scary part, they had a skeleton going through the room , over our heads, on a string!! Very scary!
And, then the ultimate scare came! Behind the screen we could see flames, real ones, not the movie. Everyone paniced! We all ran towards the door at once, screaming and scared for our lives now! I lost a shoe in the panic, and went home in january , with only one shoe on!
I don't remember much about the movie, though!.....

"The Creature From the Black Lagoon ", "Them ", "The Thing ", all are great movies, with scary special effects from before digital era.

My wife and I love the old gothic B&W horror classics (Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, Mummy, and some of the sequels) done by Universal Studios. Good acting and dialogue, but better yet a total sense/feeling of horror without all the blood and guts and special effects. Those old misty, dark sets, along with the musical scores, were the type that could really bring you into the scene as a participant. AMC and/or TCM usually airs them around Halloween.
