In Response to 21 Must-See Movies for Adults : I just saw "Hope Springs" with Merle Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. It was a tear-jerker, but worth it when it got to the ending. It wasn't what I was expecting at all!

Shadowlands with Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger is my vote. The list I have read is a bit tooooo classic for me. I have seen most of them and well, do not want to see them again. So I am adding this to the list for those who want to see a true love story. This emotionally moving romantic drama was adapted by William Nicholson from his own acclaimed play, based upon the real-life romance (during the 1950s) between the British writer C.S. Lewis and a divorced American poet named Joy Gresham. Anthony Hopkins os Lewis and living comfortably as a respected Oxford don, his academic lifestyle a kind of shell protecting him from the emotional risk of love. Joy Gresham (Debra Winger) arrives at Oxford as an avid admirer of Lewis's writing, and the safety of his collegiate routine is quickly disrupted when Lewis realizes that he's fallen deeply and unexpectedly in love. Their courtship is uniquely engaging; he's shy and uncertain, she's outspoken and bold. Hopkins and Winger are equally superb in this absorbing story of personal and spiritual transformation--a story previously filmed for British television in 1985. See it

I agree with a few of the best movies listed by you and others, but feel several movies were missed! I'm a HUGE Cary Grant fan, so most of his movies are on my list. So, not in any particular order, my favorites include the following:

1. North by Northwest
2. Casablanca
3. Notorious
4. Rear Window
5. The Third Man
6. The Usual Suspects
7. Millers' Crossing
8. My Favorite Brunette
9. Circle of Friends
10. Bringing Up Baby
11. Arsenic and Old Lace
12, The Hiding Place
13. Out of the Past
14. A Fish Called Wanda
15. Harvey
16. To Catch a Thief
17. Mermaids
18. October Sky
19. Gilda
20. A Knight's Tale

It's a eclectic collection, I know, but that's how my tastes run!

I saw Bridges of Madison County, but didn't like it so much. So, you recommend Hope Springs? I missed it in the theaters! I was too slow getting there.

Guess I'll have to catch it on Netflix now!

I forgot to include "What's Up Doc?" Barbra Streissand (spelling?) and the rest of the cast were HILLARIOUS! Love the car-chase scene in the VW Bug!
