I just saw "Hope Springs" with Merle Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. It was a tear-jerker, but worth it when it got to the ending. It wasn't what I was expecting at all!

I loved Hope Springs, too! I kind of felt like I was sitting in on those sessions--it was so authenic I actually felt uncomfortable, in a good way!

I like this list! Not many people think about Greed anymore. I haven't seen it since college. And nice call with Napoleon. Have you seen the widescreen scenes in a theater? Touch of Evil--I'm guessing you've seen the reconstructed version, with Welles' original opening.

I never got a chance to see the wide screen showing of"Napoleon". I think that they played this movie at Radio City Music Hall( with full orchestra) 40-50 years ago?. No doubt this movie is the greatest artisic movie ever made. Amazon is selling this on their website for:$459.79!!. Much to rich for my blood!!!.I undestand that there is a new restoration done in Dec. 2004 by Kevin Brownlow at Royal festival hall-London. With a new musical score by Carl Davis. I hope that this five and a half recording will be put on a DVD in the near future.I do have the completed full recording on DVD of "Touch of Evil".I agree with the great Director Peter Bogdanovich that "Touch of Evil" is Orson Welles greatest film.

I have been watching classic movies since the age of 12, when there were only 6 television stations. One station in particular showed classic films all night. Now I have a great collection and knowledge of classic film. Here are SOME of the films on My Must See List:

- She Done Him Wrong 1933 - Mae West saved Paramount Studios with her films. She wrote her own dialogue/took charge of her films.
- The Razor's Edge - 1946, great movie of one guy looking for the meaning of life.
- Now, Voyager - 1943/44, a good movie for young and older women and some men who are depressed, have been bullied and possess low self esteem.
- Seven Days in May 1964 - great suspense where a Pentagon Aide discovers his general's plot to overthrow the President and those close to the President take counter action.
- All the President's Men - TRUE journalistic investigation at its best that led to a President's resignation.
- L.A. Confidential - Police become immersed in corruption, scandal, and politics in 1950s Hollywood.
- All That Heaven Allows - Older woman loves younger man who lived the type of life that Henry David Thoreu wrote about.
- Jesse James 1939 - one of the most overlooked westerns. Yes, the James brothers were outlaws but this movie tackles with why they became outlaws as the Railroad company at the time had been misleading and threatening property owners into signing over their acreage for much less than they paid, including their mother's land.

Your list is interesting but to include BIRTH OF A NATION is questionable It is painful to watch, yet it is regarded as the first full length feature film of its time. It is racist and D.W. Griffith tried to squash the outcry at the time by releasing INTOLERANCE a year or two afterward. INTOLERANCE is hard to understand unless you watch this movie several times.
