   Hi, birrellwalsh:
I, too, am a writer who had her second paperback published a couple of months ago. The first one, Run For Your Life, turned out to be the first in a series with the second one, Taken By Terror, leading to a third (still untitled). These tales involve the amazing adventures of residents of a small community called TerraCove situated in SW Florida and how they interact in bad times and good. They are exciting, clean mysteries verging on "cozies," and easy reading.

I did that too - just a few poems - but I had the advantage of a group of friends to publish them to.  Things really started for me when I got into the National Novel Writer's Month.  Nanowrimo was hard, but I found I could write a novel!

Bet you could too.

I started the same way. I had a short story that I wrote several years ago. One day I stumbled onto the amazon self publishing site (kdp.amazon.com) and just playing around, posted the story. To my surprise it got several 5 star reviews.

That prompted me to expand the story into a novella, which surprised me again with some 4 and 5 star reviews. The reviewers loved the story and wanted more. That encouraged me to expand the story again into a full novel, Coming to Astoria: An Immigrants Tale, which I published a few weeks ago.

Take those stories and poems, put them into a collection and publish it. You never know, it may inspire you to write more. If you need a hand let me know and I can help you out. It's really very simple amd you may actually have fun doing it.

I did the same thing.  I self-published.  Good advice.

Omar - could you say more about your experience with KDP?  Did you charge for your short story, for instance?

In Response to Re: What have YOU written? : I understand, but you can also "publish" your works for yourself.  That way, you can see your written works in book form.  Go for it!

Yes!  I use lulu.com.  You can upload a doc in MS Word Format, design your own cover or use their cover wizard, and get out with your first copy for under $20.  As Carla said, you can see your written works in book form.  It really is a thrill.

I used to have my opwn column with the AFRO-AMERICAN NEWSPAPER covering reloisious and community activities. I did this for years before a new editor came in and brought in her own people. I have written articles for
christian organization statewide and nationally. My first book was published a little while ago. My son pushed me to do so.It is great seeing my thoughts in print.
