One of my favorite books of last summer was The Art of Racing in the Rain . What should I consider for this summer's reading list?

In Response to Re: What should I put on my summer reading list?:

Hi Sue! Ah yes I've heard of "A Walk in the Woods". I would appreciate that one as I have some backpacking experience. "Life & Times" also sounds like a good, light summer read. I booked the ticket for my family vacation, so now I need to stock up on some of these great suggestions! -Lynne

In Response to Re: What should I put on my summer reading list? : Hi Lynne, thought of 2 more books. Bill Bryson has written many books, two of my favorites are "A walk In the Woods,he&friend decide to walk theAppalachian trail, its funny& learn about history of the trail in process. The other is his memoir,"The Life&Times of the Thunderbolt Kid' growing up in the 50's in Iowa, very funny book. Some of the things he wrote, brought me back to my childhood too, love his sense of humor Sue

I just finished "Forgotten Strokes" by Bill Mack English.  It is an e-book available on Amazon.com.
It is a great summer read...once I got into it, I could not put it down.  It chronicles the adventure of a 70-year man named Cort  and his relentless attempt to shoot his age in the game of golf. The clarity and enlightenment that he achieves throughout the ups and downs of this pursuit carry over into his life experiences as well. The author does an excellent job of letting us see these "life" connections through the eyes of Cort's grandson, Brennan, a quirky, funny 22-year old kid who has committed to keeping a "log" of his grandfather's progress. While doing so, he not only documents his grandpa's adventure, but his own personal exploits and life observations too. This story also has some very strong, likeable females characters in it.

I read The Art of Racing in the Rain and A Dog’s Purpose and was moved by both. I’m currently reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and I am loving it. It is a unique and beautiful story, full of magic and romance! Although, if you haven’t already read Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (my all-time favorite novel), you should put that at the top of your list.

"In the Garden of Beasts" was quite interesting to me.  Historically accurate with insights into major players just before WW11.

Here's what I'm reading this summer:

Cool I'm not really a reader, but I'm reading The Hunger Games.  The movie was really good, and so is the book so far.  I'm also reading the purpose driven life, for my Sunday School Class.  I'm enjoying both books.

Loved  The Art of Racing in the Rain, but Merle's Door was fantastic. Definitely a must read for everyone.

After 5-yrs or more, I am currently re-reading one of my most favorite books 'A Prayer For Owen Meany' by John Irving (1989).  For 12-yrs I read & re-read a paperback copy until 2002 when my sister gifted me w/ a hardback at Christmas.  My paperback, after loaning out to many, had become very tattered & torn, held together w/ a rubberband.  My sister also loves this book.  For those who have not read 'The Language of Flowers' please do so....an excellent read & my sister agrees.  I will keep this book to re-read in the future.  My sister & I are avid readers!!!!

I get most of my books through Doubleday & after loaning out to my sister & others, I most often donate the hardbacks to my neighborhood library.  But some books are worth keeping for future re-reading.

I am most looking forward to reading Dean Koontz's newest 'Odd Thomas' book.  Happy dog days of summer reading to all Cool
