Posted by LynneG Hi LynneG,I'm a dog lover, loved that book. I just finished reading wonderful book,a memoir by Kristin Kimball"The Dirty Life'. She's a writer who leaves her comfort zone in NYC,interviews a young farmer,Mark who changes her world forever. Together they start a new farm,500acres in New Paltz,NY. Sue, sounds like a terrific recommendation for me. I moved out to the country 10 years ago and never looked back. Thank you! (Btw I had to wait many months after the passing of my young dog to even attempt to read Art of Racing in the Rain, glad I did though.) I, too, loved "The Art of Racing In The Rain." Another good dog book is "A Dog's Purpose" May I also suggest "The Same Smile" http://www.thesamesmile.com |

Thanks Mazenga. Two more for my list! Did hear some liked "A Dog's Purpose" even better than "The Art of Racing In The Rain"? I'm looking forward to both of your recommendations. This is true story how the author found a stray dog, rhodesian ridgeback on a canoe trip in Utah, names the dog Merle. Its about their life together in Wyoming, the trust they have in each other. Another book,"Running The Books" by Avi Steinberg. The author a Harvard graduate takes a unique job postion, running the library counter in a Boston prision, during his 2 years,he meets all sorts of quirky characters. I loved this book, one of best books I read last yr. Sue |

I have been reading The Fifties by David Halberstam. And can recommend it as a history book that is fun and enjoyable to read. David tells the history very well starting at the end of the forties. Each chapter is on a historical event or cultural change. There is even one on Holiday Inn. I paid a penny plus shipping at Amazon. The address is Amazon |

Posted by LynneG One of my favorite books of all times was Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. She's a fabulous author who writes about relationships. Winter Garden is about two sisters who delve into their mother's past to try to get to know her as she is very aloof with them growing up. It was heart wrenching and so beautiful at the same time. Kristen's books make you think about your own life because her stories are fiction, but yet real. I'm on a mission to read all of her books. I already read Night Road, which was also a great book. I'm now reading Between Sisters. I can't say enough wonderful things about this author! |

In Response to Re: What should I put on my summer reading list?: Keep those suggestions coming--thanks everyone! Posted by LynneG Hi Lynne, thought of 2 more books. Bill Bryson has written many books, two of my favorites are "A walk In the Woods,he&friend decide to walk theAppalachian trail, its funny& learn about history of the trail in process. The other is his memoir,"The Life&Times of the Thunderbolt Kid' growing up in the 50's in Iowa, very funny book. Some of the things he wrote, brought me back to my childhood too, love his sense of humor Sue |
