Hi, guys; it's me!  And, just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water . . . Surprised

Just checking in to let you know I'm back from "Nanna" duty, and ready to return to 9WAD business as usual.

Soon come back with my piece and thoughts on yours.

D

P.S.  I missed you!

Words for March 7

Fingerprints, window, cloudless, ego, emptiness, edge, children, pavement, wonder
Bonus: bookmark

Bookmarks Of My Life

Children of my life
Leaving smudgy fingerprints
On my beating heart

Cloudless, sunny days
Young faces at the window
Bookmarks of my life

Leaving, returning
Changes flow like the seasons
Life empties and fills

All my memories
Cement my days together
Wonder fills my heart

The pavement of life
Edging far past my ego
Into the unknown

WORD LIST FOR 2/29/12

bitter
island
floating
emptiness
eyelash
coffee
lone
sensitivity
mirror
bonus word: Anonymous

Time, Eyelashes and Bitter Coffee

Time simply slips by like
a lone fallen eyelash
floating on air
and swept away;
or,

islands of steam swirling
from hot, bitter coffee
evaporating into cups
filled with emptiness;
or,

prickly sensitivity once felt
as anonymous comes familiar
on faces of time, seen daily
in our mirrors.

Thanks, great to be back.  I'm happy to find lists to work with; backlog can be beautiful!  And, I need the fuel for my fire.

I like working with words lists. They stir my creativity. I find that I use words in ways I would otherwise I would not think to use.

Bravo, Sparkle!  You've touched that Mom/Nanna place in me.  When I reached my "empty nest" bookmark, I discovered that for all the things i mastered and achieved in my working life, mothering and caretaking are what I do and enjoy best.  Three generations of kids:  6 younger siblings, 4 of my own, and now 9 grands and 2 great-grands.  The young woman I was never wanted the role of cliche mom and homemaker; she preferred the corporate and legal family life.  Or, so she thought . . .

Great job, Sparkle.  Thanks for the memories!

WORD LIST FOR 2/29/12 Bitter, island, floating, emptiness, eyelash, coffee, lone, sensitivity, mirror bonus word: Anonymous ......................................... Life Is a Series of Adjustments I sit here drinking in the bitter dregs of what my life has become. Isolation is like a fog that constantly keeps me from thinking clearly about how to proceed. To get on with what I know I have to do. My pleasant porch, my garden...how can I bear to leave them. Living in this house for fifty-two years has become a habit. One I am fearful of breaking. Every morning of these years I have awaken to the view of the oak tree outside my window. I have watched the dawn lighten the sky and heard the birds begin their song. Only one bird at first and then others joining until the morning comes bursting into view and I shake the dreams from my heard. Pulling my body from bed, I force my muscles to awaken as I slowly walk towards the kitchen and the coffee pot. I don't look in the hall mirror anymore. Don't want to see what's there I guess. Some days I completely forget to even run a comb through my wiry gray hair. Sipping my hot, black Community coffee on the back porch is a private pleasure. I love my freedom here on the island . Being in control of my days and hours. My minutes. Time is ticking down and I will soon be forced to make a big adjustment to my life. If only I could stay here anonymously , slowly fading into the bark of the oak tree, being a lone , silent observer of life, sensitive to its seasons. A drop of moisture runs down my cheek and falls into my nearly empty doffee cup. I notice an eyelash floating there. It's very hot this morning, could reach the nineties by noon. I see the figs are ripe and need picking. I'd better get started with my day.

There's so much feeling in this piece, I know the dread of leaving as if I was speaking.  I was diagnosed with clinical depression in 1992, and declared officially disabled in 2002.  I know a true story when I "feel" one; it's either yours or someone very close to you.  I know because these words express places I've been so many times before.

Keep writing, we need it.

This was based on my Mother who was losing her vision due to undetected diabetes. She also went into kidney failure and had to enter a nursing home, near my sister, where she could be transported for dialysis. I asked her before she made the decision to leave her home how she felt about it and she replied "Life is a series of adjustments and this is just one more I have to make". She was always a "glass half full person". I would often take her from the nursing home back to her house so that she could smell the flowers of spring and feel the memories she had stored in her home.
