I absolutely love, love the New International Version of The Bible.  Better yet is the NIV Bible as a Study Bible.  Of course, it now can be found in paperback, hardback, on smartphones, pads and tablets.  ...Jo

I am a Haruki Murakami fan.  Best is "Kafka on the Shore".  I just finished "IQ84" which has a different tone to it than other Murakami books, but is extremely intriguing as well.  (It's about 1000 pages---originally a trilogy and called by many his puzzle book.  Like most of his books, it still remains unsolved to me.   I've read a lot about Kafka on the Shore including many analyses which end by saying they "have no idea" what it's about.  Love it.

I have read both of the Wilkie Collins books mentioned above  There is a book, "Mortal Consequences" by Julian Symons that is a history of detective and crime stories.  It's fantastic.  May be out of print, but I saw quite a few used copies on Amazon.  I've read and actually studied it several times.

I am an avid reader, but I am also a writer. I have 6 novels published. Of course I would recommend my books to everybody. I write under the name of Carole McKee. Four of my books can be purchased in paperback form and all 6 of them can be purchased as eBooks. The titles for the paperback/eBooks are:
"Perfect"
"Choices"
"The Bushes are Red" and
"The Full Nelson."
The other 2 are eBooks only. They are:
"Kisses from he Heart" and
"Maddie's Garden."
All are available on Amazon.com, and any other book store online. Although they are classified as romance, (and of course there is some of that) there are other elements to the books to make them exciting and enjoyable.

If you haven't discovered Daniel Silva yet, start with his The Kill Artist and follow the career of Israeli spy Gabriel Allon. His cover is as an art restorer and his travels take him all over Europe and to the US. I cannot put these down and have read every one, eagerly.

Dennis Lehane writes about Boston is his novels. In addition to a series (from which Gone Baby Gone, the movie, was made), he has some stellar stand-alones including Shutter Island, The Given Day, and more. The Given Day was my absolute favorite.

In Response to Re: A Great Read:
Has anyone read the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon?  Would love to discuss this series.

Oh yes...I have not read the last one yet.  I'm waiting to be sure I have enough time so I don't have to put it down much.  I think these may be the books you could read again.  In the first book, at the start, when Claire was with her husband, before she walked through the stones, I seem to remember she 'saw' someone looking up at her window in the rooming house.  It had to have been Jamie but it was never brought up again.  Anyone else remember that?

It has been awhile since I read the Breath of Snow and Ashes though; but, if you'd like to discuss it I'm open to it.

Oh, I loved Sarah's Key.  I have not seen the movie though.  The Boy In the Stripped Pajamas is great also.

I just read "The Weird Sisters" by Eleanor Brown. It was wonderful. Even if you don't have sisters, it is a good read. It was on my library's Too Good To Miss shelf.

I also recently read "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro. It was a bit unusual but rather good. It might make a good choice for book groups and I see that there are discussion questions at the end. Now I have the movie on DVD and I'm excited to see how closely they kept to the book.

I am also recently retired and I am loving the extra time to read.

For great 'short reads'--Mud City, by Deborah Ellis; then her second book, Parvona's Journey; then her third, The Breadwinner.  Another good short read--Kiss the Dust, by Elizabeth Laird.  For longer reads--The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini; The Life of Pi, by Yann Martin.  Right now I'm re-reading Uncle Tom's Cabin on my Kindle.  Love my Kindle Fire!  So many great FREE books to download from Amazon.com     I try and buy used printed books from Amazon.com and have never been disappointed, as their description of the condition is right on target.  Alibris books, (used),  is also great.

For action and adventure, any Clive Cussler about oceanography is exciting.  Hana's Suitcase by Karen Levine is a great account of a Holocoust victim's suitcase being lost.  I love writers from other countries such as Italo Calvino, The Baron in the Trees and The Nonexistent Knight combined with The Cloven Viscount.

Actually, I love a variety of types of books.  The only thing I'm not thrilled to read is modern space-science-fiction.  I have read a few but they didn't hold my attention very much!  My friends/family and I keep books circulating all the time between us!
