I really don't know what possessed me, but I uploaded The Hunger Games Triolgy to my Kindle. Couldn't put it down. A great guilty pleasure/beach book. Now I have to go see the movie.

Yes, loved the Hunger Games, easy read.  The movie was good but there is so much more information in the books.

Recently, I've been reading novels by Nelson DeMille, (The Gold Coast, The General's Daughter, Charm School, By The Rivers of Babylon, Word of Honor, Spencerville), and found them to have involved plots with unexpected twists and turns.
His novels do not have the typical "Hollywood ending"; the characters are realistic in traits and motivations with  complex personalities.   Although the characters are well developed, there are few heroes or villians, but rather ordinary people in extrordinary situations.
These novels take a long time to read as they are complex and average 500 to 800 pages.

Nelson DeMIlle's pair of books featuring John Corey as the ATTF agent stalking the Lion ( a Libyan terrrorist) in The Lions Game and its sequel The Lion.  I have enjoyed this read and wanted to pass along what a good read it was.

In Response to Re: A Great Read : I've just finished reading it myself. I thoroughly enjoyed it - especially the way he fleshes out the detail in historical events which most of us weren't aware of, in a way that engages us with the moment. It's a good read!

Agree...excellent read, however, I thought his earlier books were better...Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.

Books are always better because you get the meat of the characters.  But the Hunger Games movie was very well done; they kept the story intact.

Retired and Reading too much!  Read all the Game of Throne books.  Excellent....so is the TV series.  Iam now reading the early books of Patrcia Cornwell, The Scarpetta Series.  I've read most of Stephen King's books and Anne Rice's The Vampire series..  Love Action, Mystery and really good horror.

I'm reading a real eye-opener about disasters:  A Paradise Built In Hell by Rebecca Slotnit.  It is heartwarming to read of how people come together and form helping communities in the wake of tragedy and horrifying to realize that most of the problems are caused by government intervention.  The concept of "elite panic" is also very interesting.  It seems the 1% are afraid of these powerful helping communities that spring up spontaneously among the peasants and do many destructive things to thwart them.

This book is out of print, but you can still get good used copies from Amazon or http://www.abebooks.com/ .

My new novel, Twenty-One Steps of Courage, about the Sentinels who guard the Tomb of the Unknown was released this week. I am shamlessly plugging it because one, it is a "great read", and two, it honors these members of The Old Guard who first formed to protect America's first president, George Washington. Set in 2006 against the Iraq ans Afghanistan wars, the story follows a young man who enlists to honor his father by becoming a Sentinel. While the new recruit believes that sheer will and hard work will propel him to his goal, hurdles litter his path like IEDs and he must overcome them all. Finally, he encounters an obstacle that threatens his goal forever, and may take his life, too.

My current read is “The Start-Up of You” by LinkedIn cofounder and chairman Reid Hoffman and author Ben Casnocha.  Key is to manage your career as if it were a start-up business.  Still reading it, but has some good stuff and giving me some good third party validation to what I teach as a job search coach; invest in yourself, build networks, take intelligent risks, and develop an unique competitive advantage.
