Two recent favorites are Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton - a quick and fun swashbuckler read discovered among his papers after his death.

Then there's a serious, magnificent piece of writing which has several unexpected turns and is really a mature voice about intimate rrelaionships - A Reliable Wife, by Robert Goolrick. The first ten pages are a little bleak, but once the story kicks in, it's hard to put down.

I just finished reading "The Accidental Pope" bu Raymond Flynn & Robin Moore.  It is not a new book, but was given to me recently.  Wonderful book.  It is fiction and I will never see this realty in mine time, but I do hope that it will some day.

In Response to Re: A Great Read:
Has anyone read the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon?  Would love to discuss this series.

I've read them all, including the Lord John books.  I'm eagerly waiting for the next book to come out.  I'm totally hooked and have been since OUTLANDER was released.

I enjoy self-discovery and self-improvement book.  I know of two great books.

I have a SEIZE the NOW 30 day journal eBook.   It's free and you can download it now.  It's a combination journal and time management system.  The intent is to spend 10 minutes a day reviewing your time management habits.  If you want to improve or incorporate new habits, using this journal system  gives you the daily practice and attention that a new habit deserves.  - but in a painless fashion.

My newest favorite book is "The Buddha in the Attic" by Julie Otsuka!  From the journey from Japan to San Francisco of Japanese mail-order brides to the onset of Japanese Americans sent off to internment camps during WWII, I was spellbound by this little book.  Narrated from first person plural and told from the POV of a group of women, this is a powerful story, for it allows the reader to see multiple perspectives yet still see the women as individuals. This would be a terrific selection for a book club.

May I modestly recomment two books that I have written.

"A Geezer's Guide to the Universe" is a collection of stories, articles, quotes and humor. Would make a great gift to a graduate or a bridal couple.

"Music City's Defining Decade" is a first person account of the Nashville scene during the 1970s when modern hard-driving country finally out-distanced the Grand Ole Opry's then-hillbilly flavor.

Both are available on-line from Amazon, Barnes&Noble, etc.

I have read all of Gabaldon's books but the final one. I just can't get started. Have loved the series. Love to read and stumbled on a great series when I found this one.

I would reccomend "Lamb: The Gosple According to Biff Christ's Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore.  It is very humorous and irreverent look at Christ's life through the eyes of his best friend Biff.  If you talk your religion seriously, this but is not for you.  If you read this book I guarentee you will laugh out loud.

Several years ago I read the "Cairo Trilogies " by Nagib Mafouz..  I would highly recommend these books to anyone who wants to understand through very realistic and engaging characters, some of the background to our current situation in the Middle East. The author won a Nobel Prize in the 50's for this work and was subsequently villified by those who were offended by his portrayals of Egyptian life.
