First of all I think a great read is one that holds your attention all the through to the end.  I love to read any and all mysterys.  Not the Stephen King types but the ones where they solve the mystery.  I like to try to solve it along with the the character or characters.

A very favorite of mine is "the Invisible Wall" written by Harry Bernstein when he was 95 yrs. old.  It is the story about a young man growing up in England where the Christians and Jews on the same block are separated by an invisible wall.  It was a tender, heartwarming true story and the first of his trilogy.  He has since passed away, but his books were a treasure to read.+

I have read every book by Nicholas Sparks. I just can't put his books down.  Also I read One Day by David Nicholls. I find that the books are so much better than the Movies. In fact I haven't watched this one.

I have read 5 books by an Iish author ,Patrick Taylor, about the lives of a young Dr and an older Dr.he goes to work with and how the younger one met him. The book has a glossary in the back in case you do not understan some Irish wording and also Irish receipes the I have tried and found to be very tasteful. I am sure anyone would find it great reading.

I'm currently reading The Art of Fielding which is really good - not too heavy,  but certainly not light -  the subject matter is baseball and how everything is connected.  It's got a great plot,  good character development and very interesting themes. Reminds me in a way of Jonathan Franzen's Corrections or Freedom - maybe Freedom more.

Just finished The Quickening Maze by Adam Foulds  - excellent historical fiction concerned with the Victorian peasant poet John Clare and how he went mad and spent some time at an asylum which Alfred (not Lord yet) Tennyson frequented due to his brother.  The histroical elements are prominent but the character development and poetic language are perfect -  Thematically it touches on boundaries -  of the woods,  of madness, or love.

I'd give both of these books As.  They're not A+s though -  those are reserved for books like Julie Otsuka's The Buddha in the Attic which have all of the above,  plot, characters, themes, but  also touch my heart and soul.

I'm sure a lot of you have already read all the James Herriot books, but I've just about finished them.  From his first to his tour of the Yorkshire Dales and also his son's book about his Dad, James Herriot, or, his real name, Alf Wight.  They are such wonderful heartful loving books that I wish he had written more.  And if his son, who is also a vet, can write half as good as his Dad, I'll read his too.

This man had a great life and lived somewhere that he absolutely loved.  And his real life adventures tells it all.

I ordered a complete set in paperback from Amazon, and it turned out they were shipped from England!!  Took about 2 weeks but the books although advertised as used, were new and were in a lovely case (for $11.00 shipped)!  I watched the series All Creatures Great and Small at least 3 times and then decided to read the books.  I'd recommend these books and the series to everyone who loves a real story and anyone who loves animals, great and small.

If you are a Senior homeowner and are trying to decide whether to stay in your home for the rest of your life or to sell and move to another type of housing and maybe also to another location,  try reading "Stay or Move, A Seniors' Housing Dilemma." It has all the information and guidelines to assist you in making a wel informed decision. It is in some libraries and available on   Amazon.com.
