A Prayer for Owen Meaning is one of my alltime favorites!  I then went on to Read many more of John Irving's books and loved this author!

Oh, I loved that book!  A Prayer for Owen Meany is enthralling! Let me recommend another psychological, and analytical drama: At Play in the Fields of the Lord, by Peter Matthiessen. He is a naturalist and a great author, so the scenery he includes is so full of accurate description, you think you are there!
Anyone here ever read that one?

In Response to Re: A Great Read : I've just finished reading it myself. I thoroughly enjoyed it - especially the way he fleshes out the detail in historical events which most of us weren't aware of, in a way that engages us with the moment. It's a good read!

The Fall of Giants sounds like my kind of book, I will have to get a copy. I am also looking for a good mystery to read, too. Any ideas?

I just finished an amazing book, Encouraged by the Light, by John Christian Edwards.

It is about an accident when he was young. Supposed to be a true story. His head was banged up, kind of like traumatic brain injury. He spent four days coming and going delirious, unconscious, blind, and disagreeable. During all that he had these out of body experiences and a real interesting near-death experience.

He helped me understand them better. He is on Social Security now so he has had a lot of years to think about it. He discusses it from both an objective and subjective point of view. He explains lots!

An easy read, even though he gets into some pretty deep stuff occasionally.

Found it real comforting, as I lost family this last year. I guess the Scripture in it is reassuring.

Oh, there is this thing to. Cool A pretend video of what it is like to trip to the City of Light:

I just read the most entertaining book that I received as a gift. It was both heartwarming and hilarious! I found myself laughing out loud many times. It is called "The 5 Greatest Spankings of All Time". It is about growing up in the 1950's on a ranch and the trouble these three brothers got into from time to time.  I believe it is available in ebook and soft cover at Amazon.  I'd love to know what other's think of this great read?

Ken Follett's books are at the top of my list of favorite authors.  The next book in this trilogy Winter of the World is due out September 12th and I'm looking forward to it.

If you like historical novels (many taking place during World War II),  go to Ken's web site for more titles.  I see that there are movie and/or mini-series either available on  DVDs or Netflix or soon to be released ;  I read Eye of the Needle and see it has been adapted in a movie which I did not realize--it's going to the top of my queue.

Any other authors that you recommend?

I love Laura Lippman! I've read all her works. I love her standalone books and her Tess Monaghan series. I met her at a book talk in Ft. Worth several years ago. She was charming, witty, friendly and gracious.

Love him or hate him (or somewhere in between) the Steve Jobs book was one of the best reads in a very long time. It takes you beyond the guy that co-founded Apple, took "Toy Story" to infinity and beyond and changed the way we look at the world.

There is a book out that anyone that's interested in starting a company and making sure it's successful should read. It's about one what should and should not do to make it in this world. The name of the book is Day From Darkness to Light and it was written by me, Raymond Day. It took over 27 years to write and it goes through the many phases that life takes. It's available on Barnes and Noble online, the iTunes bookstore, Amazon.com and the Nook bookstore. Let me know what you think of it.
