Advocacy

NRTA's Advocacy Efforts

  • NRTA is dedicated to protecting the economic security of working and retired educators through a variety of advocacy activities. NRTA sponsors the NRTA Pension Round Table, which monitors trends in public employee retirement issues and recommends research, policy and advocacy efforts to protect educator pensions and benefits. The Pension Round Table also publishes 'Fighting Inflation: How Does Your COLA Compare?' -a state-by-state compilation of cost-of-living adjustments. Read the full story.
  • NRTA also supports advocacy on the state and local level through its association with state Retired Education Associations (REAs) and through AARP's state offices.
  • NRTA is committed to positive social change and has launched an ongoing Educator Retention Initiative to leverage the experience and expertise of veteran educators to address the critical goal of keeping quality educators and in schools.
  • NRTA promotes education for all ages and celebrates the critical contribution that educators make to a free and vibrant democratic society.

Educator Retention Initiative

One of the most pressing concerns facing the education community, and our nation, is the issue of schools being unable to retain quality administrators and teachers. As the leading national organization for retired educators, NRTA is committed to using its influence and the collective power of its membership to help develop meaningful responses to the educator retention issue on the national, state, and local levels. Working with the advice and guidance of prominent educators and friends of education, a three-year initiative will be developed to engage NRTA members and state REAs to take a leadership role in addressing this critical concern.

Community Service

With Our Youth! and CyberSeniors

In partnership with its network of state and local Retired Educator Associations (REAs), NRTA supports community service activities that parlay educators' commitment to serving their communities. Two such examples are NRTA's With Our Youth! activities and the CyberSeniors/CyberTeens program. Read the full story.
