AARP is exploring the challenges Americans face and potential solutions they can employ in achieving financial security in retirement. Since the employer-based benefits system is critical for most Americans to achieve financial security in retirement, we are paying particular attention to the current state of and trends impacting traditional pensions and defined contribution retirement systems.
Part of this investigation into these issues entails raising the public discourse and awareness by conducting conferences, reaching out to policy makers, communicating with employers, and speaking directly with the public. Therefore, AARP encourages interested parties to submit comments about new and creative ideas in employer-sponsored retirement savings. Please write to us at pensionconference@aarp.org.
As part of this effort, AARP and the Employee Benefit Research Institute hosted a conference on the pension system and retirement savings on May 15, 2006.

One of the most promising innovations in the employer-based retirement savings system is proving to be the "automatic 401(k)." AARP is interested in furthering the proven impact of this and other refinements to the current defined contribution system. Find more information about this and other issues related to workplace savings at www.aarp.org/auto401k.
AARP is also dedicated to helping Americans directly with the multitude of decisions they must make in saving for, managing, and protecting their financial security in retirement. Visit www.aarp.org/finance to see just some of the public information we make available.
