AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Seeks Colorado Volunteers

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers across the state to help Colorado taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2011 tax returns.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers receive free tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around the state, learning new skills while giving back to countless communities.

“We’ve assisted thousands of people in preparing and filing their tax returns,” said Angela Cortez, AARP Colorado spokeswoman. “We could not do it without our hundreds of volunteers, who make an indelible mark on the communities they help.”

Last year, more than 550 Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 28,000 taxpayers across the state. They join the more than 35,000 Tax-Aide volunteers across the country, helping millions of taxpayers each year.

Centro San Juan Diego, which began complementary tax-filings during last year’s tax season at 2830 Lawrence St., is the first Tax-Aide site in Colorado to specifically engage the Spanish-language community.

“The new Tax-Aide office allows us to reach out to a population of lower-income and more recent immigrants in the Hispanic community, who need help,” said Roberto Rey, AARP associate state director – multicultural. “Last year’s response was very large. This is a service that is badly needed.”

For more information online on how you can join the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide team, or call our toll-free number, 1-866-554-5376 and ask for Roberto Rey. Deadline for the application is Dec. 15, 2011.

Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in conjunction with the IRS.
