Q. I'm thinking about installing a solar water heater in my home. Can I get a tax break on it?

A. Yes, you can. If you install solar energy systems such as water heaters and solar electric systems, or geothermal heat pumps or wind turbines, you can get a tax credit of 30 percent of the total cost (including labor). The systems must go into service before Dec. 31, 2016.
A previous cap on the dollar amount of the credit no longer applies. For more information, see this U.S. Department of Energy fact sheet.
