It happens every year: the dreaded federal income tax return!
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide comes to the rescue with its no-fee tax preparation and filing service for low- to middle-income taxpayers of any age, with special attention paid to individuals age 60 and over.
“AARP Foundation Tax-Aide services are provided free of charge thanks to funding from AARP Foundation and the work of hundreds of volunteer counselors,” said AARP Foundation Tax-Aide State Coordinator Jan Nedelka. “Last year, Tax-Aide volunteers helped nearly 18,000 New Hampshire residents file almost 12,000 federal income tax returns, saving nearly $2 million in tax preparation and related filing fees. And all of our volunteer counselors have passed three levels of IRS certification, in some cases more.”
There are 50 sites across New Hampshire; many have evening and weekend hours to accommodate those who work during the day and all sites are handicap accessible. Counselors at many locations can also provide guidance regarding eligibility for property tax abatements from cities and towns. Some sites will reopen briefly in May or June to help file New Hampshire property tax rebates.
