AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers Ready to Save You Money

The AARP St. Louis Information Center-South will begin taking reservations for those seeking federal, state and local tax preparation – for free – by calling (314) 918-7563. AARP IRS trained volunteers will prepare tax returns for individuals at the AARP Information Center-South office located in the Yorkshire Shopping Center, 8059 A Watson Road, Webster Groves, MO.

The AARP Tax-Aide program, in its 42nd year, is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service, giving special attention to people over age 60, and provides assistance from approximately late January through April 15. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service.

“Since 1968, AARP Tax-Aide volunteers have enthusiastically provided this service in their communities,” said Lynn Boulware, AARP Tax-Aide state coordinator. “This free, quality and confidential program also provides year-round service and in some instances, volunteers can make visits in nursing homes and other locations if taxpayers are physically unable to make a site visit.”

Each year, more than 35,350 Tax-Aide volunteers help over 2.6 million older people across the country with their tax returns, making sure they receive all of the deductions they may be eligible for. In 2010, Tax-Aide volunteers helped people receive over 233 million in Earned Income Tax Credit, a source of cash for people with limited resources.

“I really enjoy volunteering for AARP Tax-Aide, particularly during these tough economic times,” Boulware added. “Tax law can often be confusing. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers can make the process of filling out tax returns a whole lot easier.”

AARP Tax-Aide has sites in every state and the District of Columbia; during tax season, approximately 6,600 sites are active.
