Manage Tax Time Stress
As the countdown to tax day begins, Oregonians can count on AARP to help manage tax time stress. From Feb. 1 through April 15, AARP offers a free tax-counseling program. AARP Tax-Aide, which is administered through the AARP Foundation, assists taxpayers with the preparation of federal and state income tax returns.
Free Tax Counseling
Available to any middle and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older, about 800 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers provide free face-to-face counseling services at more than 150 sites across Oregon, including senior and community centers, libraries and other convenient locations. AARP Tax-Aide also provides counseling services to individuals who are unable to leave their homes. Contact a local AARP Tax-Aide site in the community for details.
A Well Trained, Professional Volunteer Corps
Each year, more than 800 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are trained in Oregon in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service to perform tax counseling services. AARP volunteers are also trained in Oregon tax rules. Last year, these AARP Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 65,000 Oregonians with tax returns and questions.
The exceptional quality of service provided by these dedicated volunteers consistently earns the program high marks in customer satisfaction. Each year, AARP Tax-Aide achieves a significant rate of repeat customers, who say they return to the program due to the friendliness, helpfulness, knowledge and skill of AARP Tax-Aide volunteers.
Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. You don't need to be an AARP member or be a retiree to volunteer. Anyone can help who is available February through April. Volunteers can work a flexible schedule, but are asked to give at least four hours a week from Feb. 1 to April 15. IRS training and certification are provided. Volunteers are especially needed in the Prineville and Madras areas in Central Oregonian and in Morrow and Umatilla counties in Eastern Oregon.
