Most people associate the upcoming tax season with piles of paperwork and complicated math, but AARP Tax-Aide can help.
AARP Tax-Aide is a confidential, free and quality service supported by friendly people in local communities across New Jersey and the nation. This service is available to middle and low income taxpayers of all ages with special attention to those age 60 and older. IRS certified volunteers are trained to assist in filing basic tax forms.
A variety of service options are available at over 8,600 locations nationwide:
1. One-on-one on-site tax counseling, from February 1st to April 15th
2. Telephone tax counseling
3. 24 hour tax counseling on the Internet all year
The AARP Tax-Aide program has helped over 36 million people file their tax returns.
AARP Tax-Aide sites are operational from February 1 - April 15 each year. During that season, taypayers can find the site closest to their home by calling our toll-free number, 1-888-AARPNOW (1-888-227-7669) or go online. Tax counseling on the Internet is available all year round.

With the help of more than 32,000 volunteers, the AARP Tax-Aide program provides free tax preparation and assistance services to millions of taxpayers. Electronic filing and online counseling are also offered by the program. The program's funding sources include the US Internal Revenue Service, AARP, and private contributions.
Volunteering with the AARP Tax-Aide program promises to be one of the most engaging and challenging activities you will ever undertake. In a recent survey, 96 percent of AARP Tax-Aide volunteers were satisfied with their experience. Many stay with the program year after year - many for more than 15 years.
The program offers a range of meaningful leadership and tax counseling opportunities such as:
Tax Counselor
Counselors assist individuals with the preparation of their tax returns in accordance with the guidelines established between the IRS and the AARP Foundation. Training is provided.
Local Coordinator
Local Coordinators (LC) implement the AARP Tax-Aide program plans in one or more assigned geographic localities. The LC recruits, appoints, ensures adequate training, supervises and evaluates Counselors (tax preparers).
Technology Coordinator
Technology Coordinators (TC) work with the District Coordinators and members of the state-wide management team to implement, maintain and evaluate automated systems for tax service, administrative procedures and volunteer training. The TC coordinates technology-related responsibilities, including evaluating and recommending needed computer software and hardware to provide electronic filing.
Communications Coordinator
Communications Coordinators (CC) work with the District and Local Coordinators to implement and maintain publicity and recruitment efforts throughout the local region.
