From Feb. 1 through April 15, AARP Connecticut Tax-Aide volunteers are offering free tax counseling to low- and middle-income residents, with special attention to people 60 and older. In Connecticut, nearly 500 trained volunteers offer their services at 119 sites.
AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service. AARP's Tax-Aide program is a partnership between the AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service. Volunteer tax counselors process state and federal returns, on paper and electronically.
Here's how the AARP Tax-Aide program works:
- We recommend you make an appointment at the site of your choice and call that site on the day of the appointment to make sure the site is open. Sites may be closed for bad weather or other reasons. Appointments may be made starting Feb. 1.
- Find a site near you online, or, after Jan. 15, call toll-free at 1-888-227-7669 (1-888-OUR AARP).
- Year-round, AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are always available and eager to answer your questions online .
This year, take the anxiety out of tax time—visit an AARP Tax-Aide site. Or, if you'd like to help someone else take the anxiety out of their tax season, join us as a volunteer.
