Summer Cooling Costs and Older Households – August 2012

This report analyzes data from both the Residential Energy Consumption Survey and the August 2012 Short-Term Energy Outlook report. It examines cooling-related electricity consumption and expenditures among consumers age 65 and older based on income and geographic location. Analysis shows that summer cooling costs are likely to be a greater burden on older low-income households living in southern and southwestern states than those living in the north east and northwest.
