LSN Program Fees and Benefits
Initial Consultation
AARP members receive a free initial consultation—up to 30 minutes—in person or by phone. You are entitled to receive information about your concerns as well as legal advice, and options available to you. If your questions cannot be answered by a simple response, the attorney will suggest a plan that may help meet your needs.
For maximum benefit, be prepared with pertinent documents, important addresses and telephone numbers, and a written history of events about your legal matter. You are not obligated to retain the attorney after the initial half hour. If the consultation extends beyond 30 minutes, the attorney can charge for extra time, but only after you agree on a fee in advance.
Preparation of a Simple Will - $75-100
LSN lawyers can prepare a simple will for a fixed fee of $75 for a single person, $100 for a couple with similar distribution plans. A simple will provides for the outright distribution of all assets in an uncomplicated estate and includes no itemized gifts to specific individuals. A simple will generally leaves everything to a spouse or grown children. Many wills are not simple and an attorney will charge his/her regular fee less a 20% reduction for members for a more complicated will.

Durable Financial Power of Attorney - $35
With a durable financial power of attorney, you select someone you trust to act as your agent to take care of your financial matters in case you cannot manage your own affairs. For example, you can have your agent sign checks from your checkbook, pay your bills, prepare your taxes, sell your property, or deal with insurance companies. Most people should have both a will and a durable financial power of attorney.
