Angel Luna was in trouble.
He owed $13,000 after a car accident, owed $20,000 to a vocational school he dropped out of, and had debt on multiple credit cards.
He was scrambling to make up the money- collecting cans, working three or four jobs, and borrowing money from friends and relatives- but he wasn't making much progress.
Then, Luna's mother suggested he join a tanda- it's a community savings program that's practiced all over the world and is gaining popularity in the United States via immigrant communities, says producer Andrew Stelzer.
