Research shows that on average, 69% of people age 65 and older will need some sort of long-term care in their lifetime.

Responding to this long-term care reality and the massively growing number of "Boomers" who are set to retire in the near future, Cathy McDougall, AARP Idaho Associate State Director, supervised the development of the first and only, "Idahoans Guide to Long-term Care Insurance and Services Prices."

This unique free consumer guide was developed by AARP Idaho, the Idaho Department of Insurance and the University of Idaho Extension Service. Four AARP Idaho volunteers worked many hours to survey insurance companies and long-term care facilities throughout the state in order to compile the Guide. The Guide includes definitions for long-term care, and how to plan to pay for long-term care.

For the first time Idaho consumers will have access to a single comprehensive guide that will tell them what the costs for long-term care facilities are in their own communities! The section on long-term care insurance explains fully what this type of insurance covers. It explains features and terms and most importantly the costs for long-term care insurance policies available in Idaho. This Guide will be immensely helpful to thousands of Idaho caregivers and for consumers preparing for their current and future long-term care.

The "Idahoans Guide to Long-term Care Insurance and Services Prices" guide is available free by calling AARP Idaho at (208)855-4002. Respond to the message and leave your name and address. Or you can go online and download a PDF version of the Guide.

This unique consumer Guide on long-term care in Idaho is a component of AARP's Divided We Fail national campaign for accessible and affordable health care and financial security.
