Relief at the Pump Sweepstakes

OFFICIAL RULES

1.            NO PURCHASE, MEMBERSHIP OR GAS TIP NECESSARY TO ENTER OR TO WIN.  A PURCHASE, MEMBERSHIP OR GAS TIP WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.  VOID IN CO, RI, PUERTO RICO AND ALL OTHER U.S. TERRITORIES AND POSSESSIONS AND WHERE PROHIBITED. ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY.

2.            CAN I PARTICIPATE?  The Relief At the Pump Sweepstakes (the “Sweepstakes”) is open to residents of the United States (excluding residents of Colorado, Rhode Island, Puerto Rico and all other U.S. territories and possessions) who are 50 years of age or older as of the date of entry. Employees of AARP, Promotions.com, LLC, and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries and advertising and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of, and any persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of any such employee, are not eligible.  The term “immediate family members” includes spouses, parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren, regardless of where they reside.

3.     HOW DO I ENTER?  The Sweepstakes will begin at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) on 7/21/08 and end at 11:59 p.m. ET on 9/28/08 (the “Sweepstakes Period”).  The Sweepstakes Period will be divided into ten weekly entry periods (each, an “Entry Period”), each beginning at 12:01 a.m. ET on Monday of the applicable week and ending at 11:59 p.m. ET on the following Sunday of the applicable week.  During the Sweepstakes Period, there are two (2) ways to enter:

    1) Provide a Gas Tip during the Sweepstakes Period. Visit www.aarp.org/gassaving, register at the website (you do not need to be a member for this), and enter a gas tip.  The gas tip can be any information you wish to share on how you use gas efficiently or conserve on your gasoline use.  You will automatically receive one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes for providing a gas tip.  The gas tip must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on the last day of the applicable Entry Period to be eligible for that drawing.  Limit one (1) gas tip entry per person per e-mail address per Entry Period.  While an entrant may submit one (1) gas tip per Entry Period, any gas tip submitted by an entrant must be substantially different from any other gas tip submitted by such entrant during the Sweepstakes Period.

By submitting a tip, entrants understand that the tip may, at AARP’s discretion, be posted on the website or elsewhere at AARP’s discretion, for viewing by the general public and otherwise used by AARP as set forth herein.  Tip may be screened by AARP or AARP’s designee.  If tip is deemed inappropriate or unsuitable or not in keeping with AARP’s image, in AARP’s sole discretion, it will not be posted or, if posted, may be subject to removal from the website, at the sole discretion of AARP and/or its designee. Any tip or portion thereof that is, in the sole discretion of AARP, obscene, profane, lewd, defamatory, contains any third party materials (including trademarks or property of any entity other than AARP), or otherwise violates or infringes (or may infringe) any copyright, trademark, logo, mark that identifies a brand or other proprietary right of any person living or deceased (including but not limited to rights of privacy or publicity or portrayal in a false light) or entity, or is otherwise objectionable, may not be posted and AARP reserves the right to disqualify any entry containing such tip.

By submitting a gas tip, entrant agrees AARP shall own the tip submitted (including all rights embodied therein) and that it and its designees may exploit, edit, modify, and distribute the tip and all elements of such tip, in any and all media now known or not currently known, throughout the world in perpetuity without compensation, permission or notification to entrant or any third party.

Or, 2) To Participate By Mail without providing a Gas Tip:

Mail a postcard.  You can also enter by hand-printing your first and last name, address, birth date and daytime telephone number on a postcard, affixing a postage stamp, and mailing it to:  Relief At the Pump Sweepstakes, PO Box 1126, Elmhurst, IL 60126. Bulk, pre-sorted, metered, or permit-imprinted postcard entries are not permitted and will be void.  All mail-in entries must be postmarked by the last day of the applicable Entry Period and received no later than seven (7) days thereafter to be eligible for that Entry Period’s drawing.  Mechanical reproductions will not be accepted. One (1) mail-in entry will count as one (1) entry into the applicable Entry Period’s drawing.

Limit one (1) entry per person per e-mail address per Entry Period, regardless of method of entry.  Entries received from any person or e-mail address in any Entry Period in excess of the stated entry limit will be void. All entries submitted through unauthorized channels and all incomplete, lost, late, postage-due, misdirected, mutilated, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled, delayed or illegible entries, or mail will be void.  All entries become property of AARP and none will be returned or individually acknowledged.  Released Parties (as defined below) are not responsible for failure to receive or record entries or mail due to human processing errors or transmission or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, the malfunctioning of any web site, telephone equipment, network, hardware or software or for any other errors or problems of any kind, whether technical, network, computer, mechanical, printing, typographical, human or otherwise, including, without limitation, any errors or problems which may occur in connection with the administration of the Sweepstakes, the processing of gas tips or entries, the announcement of the prizes or in any Sweepstakes-related materials.  All decisions of AARP, including, but not limited to, eligibility of participants and/or the timing and eligibility of entries, shall be final and binding in all matters.

4.         WHAT CAN I WIN?  PRIZES AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES (ARVs).

Five hundred (500) total Grand Prizes - 50 Grand Prizes per Entry Period: Each Grand Prize is a $50 universal gas card that may be redeemed at any gasoline retailer that accepts the card.  See card for details and terms of use. Total ARV of all prizes: $25,000.
A winner may waive his or her right to receive prizes.  Prizes are not assignable or transferable.  No substitutions allowed by winners.  Prizes are subject to availability, and AARP reserves the right to substitute any prize with a prize of comparable or greater value, at its sole discretion.  Winners are solely responsible for payment of any federal, state and local taxes on prizes, if any, as well as any other cost and expenses associated with prize acceptance and use not specified herein as being awarded.  Except where prohibited, acceptance of any prize constitutes winner’s consent to the publication of his or her name, biographical information and likeness in any and all media now or hereafter devised for any advertising, publicity, promotional or other purpose by AARP and its designees, without limitation or additional compensation, notification or permission.  Failure to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules, or the return of any prize or prize notification as undeliverable may result in a winner’s disqualification, the forfeiture of his or her interest in the prize, and, at AARP’s discretion, the award of the applicable prize to a substitute winner randomly selected from all remaining eligible entries received for the applicable drawing.  Gas cards are subject to terms and conditions specified by issuer.  All prize details are at AARP’s sole discretion.  Limit one prize per person.

5.         HOW WILL WINNERS BE SELECTED?  Ten (10) weekly random drawings (one (1) for each Entry Period) to select the potential Grand Prize winners will be held seven (7) days after the close of each weekly Entry Period from among all eligible entries received for the Entry Period at issue. Each weekly drawing will select 50 Grand Prize winners.  Non-winning eligible entries from one Entry Period’s drawing will not be included in any other Entry Period’s drawings.  The drawings will be conducted by an independent judging agency, Promotions.com, LLC, whose decisions are final and binding. Award of a prize to a winner will be subject to verification of that winner’s eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules.
6.         WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF WINNING?  The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received for each drawing.  All entries, whether submitted automatically or by mail, have an equal chance of winning.

7.         WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF I WON?  The potential Grand Prize winners will be notified by mail or email after the completion of each weekly drawing and prizes will be shipped via U.S. mail to winners at the address provided within 4 – 6 weeks following conclusion of verification process.  Any winners who enter by submitting a gas tip and who are not AARP members will be notified by email and must respond with their address information before a prize can be awarded.

8.        HOW DO I FIND OUT WHO WON? For a list of the prize winners (available after November 14, 2008), send a self-addressed, stamped envelope for receipt by September 28, 2008 to: Relief at the Pump Sweepstakes - Winners List, PO Box 329, Elmhurst, IL 60126.
