What Is Included and Excluded in This Database?
AARP's Internet Resources on Aging is a database of Internet resources for people age 50+.
What is included?
The web sites in AARP's Internet Resources on Aging are chosen for their usefulness for older adults and their families, as well as for researchers, students, and professionals in the field of aging.
Most of the sites are produced by government agencies or nonprofit organizations. Commercial sites are not included unless they contain a substantial amount of free information that is interesting to a wide spectrum of older adults.
We review entries every 6 months, updating their descriptions and web addresses as needed. Because we want the database to be current and accurate, we have had to limit the total number of sites it contains.
Individuals or organizations who would like to recommend a site are encouraged to contact us.
What is excluded?
AARP's guide to Internet Resources on Aging does not include the following types of web sites:
- Commercial sites whose primary purpose is to sell products or services. Exceptions are made for sites offering products that are particularly helpful to older adults and may be difficult to find (such as assistive devices) and sites containing a substantial amount of free and useful information.
- Web sites consisting only of unannotated links to other sites
- Web sites with a high proportion of space devoted to advertising
- Web sites with technical problems that impede use
- Web sites describing university gerontology programs
