AARP, supporting organizations sponsoring free "Lunch & Learns" statewide

Did you know that the average time it takes an individual to recover from ID fraud is more than 40 hours?

This can negatively affect the productivity of a business in many ways, as employees who are fraud victims are often distracted from their work, may produce lower quality work, or could call in sick and miss work altogether. The bottom line is that fraud hurts businesses as well as individuals.

In 2006, thousands of Wisconsinites were thought to be victims of fraud, and the rate of fraud is predicted to rise this year. The actual number of cases is unreliable because many victims never report the crime.

In response to the growing problem, AARP Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission have teamed up to develop a brief 60 to 90-minute in-service program to educate employees about fraud prevention. The "Lunch & Learn" program is free of charge and offers information on consumer fraud, financial fraud, safeguarding your credit and where/how to report fraud.

A no-cost lunch is provided to attendees, along with a variety of fraud prevention publications and contact people at all participating agencies. Space is limited, as only 13 remaining presentations will be offered in Wisconsin. To find a date that works well for your business to host a "Lunch & Learn," call Jeanne (Moe) Benink, State Program Coordinator, AARP Wisconsin, at 866-448-3611 or email.

Note: Product pitches and other sales efforts are not part of this presentation. This is strictly an educational forum designed to leave an impression with employees that their organization cares about their financial well being.
