2007 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service
AARP Massachusetts is seeking nominations for the 2007 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service, AARP's most prestigious volunteer honor. This annual awards program recognizes outstanding volunteers who are sharing their experience, talent and skills to make a powerful difference in their communities. One recipient is selected from each state and U.S. territory.
"AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions AARP members make to their communities, neighbors, and programs they serve," said Deborah Banda, AARP Massachusetts State Director. "The AARP Andrus Award for Community Service recognizes those who enhance the lives of AARP members and their families, better their communities, and inspire others to volunteer."
Last year, AARP recognized 53 individuals from around the country with the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service, including Gerald Stepner from Peabody.
Eligibility Requirements
The selection of the Bay State's award recipient is made by an award selection team led by AARP Massachusetts, and is based on a range of criteria, including:
- how their volunteer work positively impacts the lives of individuals age 50 and over
- how their work improves the community
- how they inspire others to volunteer.
To be eligible for the award, nominees must also:
- have accomplished the volunteer service for which they are nominated during the period of January 1 - December 31, 2006
- be current AARP members, or must have been AARP members within the time period defined for this year's award
- have completed the service without pay
Application Deadline June 1, 2007
Nominations must be received by AARP Massachusetts no later than June 1, 2007; the award recipient will be announced in the Fall.
