AARP Texas Announces State Lead Volunteer for Advocacy

AARP Texas is proud to announce the appointment of Norma Wood as State Lead Volunteer—Advocacy for the term of 2003-2005. This statewide volunteer position is responsible for the coordination and oversight of AARP advocacy volunteer activities on legislative priority issues within the state of Texas. Wood will serve as the lead state volunteer for the AARP Texas Advocacy Program in carrying out its mission within the state and encouraging and coordinating efforts among advocacy volunteers to develop strong working relationships with state and congressional legislators in their assigned region or district. Most importantly, Wood will seek opportunities to engage AARP members and volunteers in advocacy activities.
Wood has been with AARP Texas in many volunteer roles, including serving as a member of AARP's Legislative Affairs Council for the last two state legislative sessions. A native of Memphis, TN, Wood attended Vanderbilt University and the University of Memphis.
Wood has a wealth of experience in a number of areas. She was Public Relations Coordinator for the Memphis Pink Palace Museum, as well as President of the Friends of the Museum. She and her late husband, Don Wood, operated a successful quarter horse business in Pilot Point, TX for over 20 years. Wood has owned and shown multiple World and Reserve World Champion quarter horses. Since moving to Austin in late 1998, Wood has become a realtor. Wood has three children and six grandchildren.
