A Message from John Hagman, AARP Minnesota State President

One of the most rewarding experiences of my life - serving as AARP Minnesota State President-is about to end. It's hard to believe - but my six years as AARP Minnesota State President will end with the closing of the year 2003.

My tenure has been rewarding, exciting - and at times, challenging. Not only have I learned a tremendous amount about the legislative process, the media, and the constantly changing challenges of people over 50, but I have also developed the utmost respect and even affection for all of our dedicated volunteers who make life better for others in Minnesota. Thank you.

This month, we will begin a search for the next state president. We are seeking an individual who can serve as AARP's spokesperson before the media and the public, and someone who is a visionary leader with the power to motivate.

One of the things I admire about this organization is that it is nonpartisan, open-minded and dedicated to public service. We will look for candidates both from within our volunteer and leadership ranks, and from the outside, with new perspectives to offer.

Candidates should have a record of achievement in either community service or their professional careers. They should be comfortable speaking before groups and have an interest in the issues confronting persons as they age. A sense of humor is required and a degree of tolerance for ambiguity would be helpful.

The AARP State President position is a fabulous volunteer opportunity and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for being able to make a positive difference in the lives of so many people. It certainly has been for me.

Nominate someone you know by emailing AARP Minnesota.
