The Minnesota heating season is here. The costs of paying for heat have risen dramatically—and experts expect an 11% increase over last year's home heating prices.
If you struggle to pay for the cost of heating your home, you may be eligible for assistance. Minnesota's Energy Assistance Program (EAP) helps pay home heating costs for thousands of Minnesotans. Households with the lowest incomes and highest energy costs receive the greatest benefit.
AARP Minnesota has worked to advocate for state and federal funding to help pay for this vital program.
"For Minnesotans who want to remain in their own homes, the rising costs of paying for heat can be difficult," said AARP State President Hubert H. "Skip" Humphrey. "Many seniors could benefit. I urge you to explore to see if you might be one of them."
Households of two with income below $26,801 and households of one below $20,495 are eligible. The size of grant is based on household size, income, fuel type and energy usage. The program can help you pay your utility bill, weatherize your home or provide emergency repairs for malfunctioning heating systems.
