The Attorney-Client Fee Agreement can help clarify your understanding with your attorney and help you resolve questions or concerns. However, if you have a question or complaint about an LSN attorney, the Legal Services Network has formal complaint procedures in place. Please contact us by one of the following methods:
- Call: 888-OUR-AARP (888-687-2277)
- Email: LSN@aarp.org
- Write: AARP Legal Services Network
601 E Street NW, Seventh Floor
Washington, DC 20049
An LSN staff member will personally handle your complaint and advise you on steps you can take with your attorney to reach resolution. If you cannot work out a problem, LSN will investigate your complaint, contact your attorney and report the results of that contact to you.
What the LSN Can/Cannot Do When Investigating a Complaint
LSN Staff can help resolve disputes about such matters as an attorney’s fee, his or her accessibility and willingness to keep you informed about your case or any other problem related to the attorney’s obligations as a participant in the AARP LSN.
Rules governing attorney conduct prohibit interference in an attorney’s representation of a client. LSN staff cannot interfere with an attorney’s judgment in handling a case, or become involved in legal strategies an attorney uses. If your complaint relates to these types of matters, you may be advised to pursue your complaint with the state disciplinary authority.
Any client of any attorney has the right to file a complaint with the state authority responsible for licensing and disciplining lawyers. LSN staff may advise such a complaint when no other possibility to resolve a serious dispute is available.
