AARP Foundation Legal Advocacy attorneys advocate in the federal and state judicial system on behalf of AARP’s more than 35 million members and other older Americans.
AARP Foundation Legal Advocacy is one of the few national organizations that defends and supports the legal rights of older Americans across the United States – assuring that they have a voice in our judicial system. Our team of 16 attorneys works on more than 70 cases each year. These nationally recognized experts work to change practices or policies that are detrimental to Americans over age 50, with a particular focus on helping low-income and vulnerable people.
We work to improve the lives of older Americans in the areas of:- Health
- Prescription drugs
- Long term care
- Age and disability discrimination in employment, pensions, and employee benefits
- Consumer protection , predatory mortgage lending, and rights of low income people
We represent older Americans in significant cases and write amicus curiae ("friend of the court") briefs on behalf of AARP. Our advocacy focuses on practices or policies of industry, business or government which are detrimental to older Americans.
