Types of Cases LCE Handles

LCE handles cases for Washington, D.C. residents who are age 60 and older. We also handle Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability cases for D.C. residents age 55 and older. LCE handles most types of civil (not criminal) legal matters using staff attorneys, attorneys in private practice who volunteer their time, and specially-trained non-attorney volunteers. Where we cannot help directly, we refer clients to someone who can.

- landlord/tenant issues
- Social Security and SSI denials
- terminations and overpayments
- guardianships
- home repair fraud
- Medicaid
- Medicare
- wills
- powers of attorney
- prevention of tax sales of people ’ s homes
We give priority to vulnerable older persons who are most in need.
